Quarterly Update  Spring 2013

From the Desk of... Kevin Shukur

Networking can be fun; however, it can be daunting as well. Good salespeople know the value of being connected in order to grow their business and become successful. Outlined below are several keys to effective networking that I have - found invaluable over my career.

Visit multiple groups. Each group has a little different flavor and composition. Make sure you are comfortable with the participants and if they can further your business. Chambers of Commerce and industry trade groups are great places to start.

Ask open ended questions. This is a sure fire way to get people talking and learning how you can help them and they can help you. As you demonstrate a genuine interest and a willingness to help others, let people know how they can help you. A great approach is to share who is the perfect prospect for your business or product. We should be listening 3 or 4 times as much as we are talking. There is a reason God gave us two ears and one mouth. Remember, it's a two-way street ...help someone find their next sale and they are glad to help you find yours.

Connect the Dots. Connect people together. This is the fun part! Being successful today, even in this technology driven world, still relies on establishing relationships with the right people. Helping others make connections will ultimately accelerate both of your success.

Be patient. It takes time. It may take months to gain trust and experience results. Nothing good happens without hard work. So relax and give it whirl!

Troy Simpson had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. So when a former co-worker explained the potential financial rewards waiting for cellular phone retailers in Florida, Troy jumped at the opportunity. Starting with a single location in Gulfview Square Mall back in 2001, he quickly grew T-Cellular to be a major retail force in Florida and Georgia. Today, the company has 30 Sprint Preferred Retailer stores and over 150 employess thanks to a focus on the Customer Buying Experience that competitors can’t match.

Outside of work, Troy commits much of his time to local charities like the IMPACT Foundation, and to civic groups like the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and the CEO Council of Tampa Bay.

Troy’s relationship with Bay Cities Bank goes back to when he first met the leadership team. He was impressed that Chairman Bronson Thayer, President Gregory Bryant, and Chief Lending Officer Kevin Shukur all took the time to learn about his company so they could provide the best service and support possible. Over the years, Bay Cities Bank has helped grow Troy’s business and become a valuable extension of T-Cellular.
